
Your Toddler’s Progress
Remember all children develop at their own speed and this information is only a guideline.
12 - 18 months
- Walk alone (if not walking by 18 months talk to your HV /GP
- Starting to feed themselves (very messy, be prepared)
- Begins to build with bricks (start with large ones)
- Understands lots and can say between 6 -20 words by 18 months
- Starting to use pretend play - feeding teddy, talking on the phone
18 – 24 months
- Enjoys scribbling with crayons (watch your walls!)
- Learns to kick and throw a ball
- Starting to put at least 2 words together
- Pointing to parts of their body
2 – 3 1/2 years
- It is normal for a 2 year old to pronounce words incorrectly. Some 3 year olds may also be difficult to understand. Talk to your HV if concerned.
- Repeats rhymes and songs and talks clearly
- Can be understood by strangers
- By 3-3 1/2 should be talking in sentences
