Welcome To The Colchester Baby Book
For parents-to-be through to parents & carers of pre-school children
It’s July and summers here apparently!!! With The Colchester Mother and Baby Fair over we decided to have a day out at the beach. With our suncream, towels, buckets and spades and of course just in case, coats packed up we were ready to go.
Although the sky was a little overcast when we arrived we were ever the optimists. A little while later the heavens opened and the wind whipped up, the waves roared against the beach walls and onto the promenade.
The wind was invigorating and the children thought it was fantastic but, this is our summer. What a complete contrast to the previous afternoon!!!
Staying safe in the sun
I hope that at some point over the next couple of months we all will need to think about suncare and the importance of protecting ourselves and our children.
This month we have include some hints and tips courtesy of SunSmart the UK’s national skin cancer prevention campaign from Cancer Research UK.
As well as looking after your skin and being aware of reducing your risks of developing skin cancer, it is also important to consider other ways of keeping yourself healthy.
Stop smoking
You may be planning a pregnancy, have just discovered that you are pregnant, or have just had a baby and feel that you are ready to think about giving up smoking. Your partner/husband may feel the same too. If so, then there is support out there for you.
You can speak to your midwife or health visitor or contact Joan / Sarah who both specialise in smoking in pregnancy, to discuss your options. You can pop into your local pharmacy who also offer Stop Smoking Support too, you don’t need an appointment. Take a look at the list and find the one nearest to you.
Take care for now,
