When I was pregnant with my daughter, I had problems finding maternity clothing locally in Colchester. I also found everyone else was wearing the same maternity clothes as me, due to a limited selection available.
That’s when I realised this could be a potential opportunity to start up a new business offering a wider selection of maternity wear. I always wanted to start my own business so I decided not to go back to my old job as an account manager for an advertising agency. I thought this was my opportunity to do something I always wanted to; work for myself.
I spent weeks researching potential maternity clothing suppliers. After speaking to several of these suppliers I decided on one who I thought offered stylish affordable maternity clothing, clothing that I would feel comfortable in throughout pregnancy. We bought some samples in for me and my pregnant friend tried them on to get the feel of them. We loved them and my friend became my first customer. That’s when our maternity clothing business Maternity and Beyond was born in December 2007. I’m enjoying the challenge of building the business and there’s so much to learn.
Our maternity wear are ideal for those summer hot days with stretchy fabric which expands with your bump, I do remember being pregnant and finding how hot I used to get and found some maternity clothes uncomfortable. This collection is also perfect for those special occasions i.e. weddings and christenings. We now have a summer sale with up to 30% off our maternity clothes.
We’ve now started to branch out into other related mum to be and baby products including personalised baby sleepsuits and baby massage products to help relax mum to be and baby.
