What Should You Eat?

Eat plenty of:

  • Fruit and vegetables
  • Starchy foods - bread, potatoes, rice, pasta and breakfast cereal
  • Lean meat, fish, poultry, eggs, cheese, beans and pulses
  • Dairy foods - milk, cheese and yoghurt

Pregnant and breastfeeding women need 10mcg of vitamin D daily

Try to avoid:

  • Sugar and sugary foods
  • Fat and fatty foods

Take care with:

  • Cooking all meat and poultry thoroughly
  • Washing fruit, vegetables and salads

Don’t eat liver or liver products

Avoid:

  • All types of pate, vegetable pates and mould-ripened soft cheese
  • Peanuts and foods containing peanut products
  • Shark, marlin and swordfish and limit the amount of tuna you eat
